The main objective of this award is to encourage young researchers to conduct research in the field of diabetes mellitus during an internship abroad. The internship should contribute to the personal development of the student and may, for example, focus on learning a new technique or acquiring analytical skills that are not practiced in the Netherlands.
Each year, four Prof. Dr. M. Diamant fellowships are available. The fellowship amounts to €4,000 and can be applied for throughout the year, with the call opening in January 2026. The funds must be used for travel and accommodation expenses.
After completion of the internship, the fellowship recipients are requested to give a presentation, which will be attended by the sponsors.
The jury is chaired by Prof. Dr. Daniël van Raalte (Amsterdam UMC) and includes Prof. Dr. Max Nieuwdorp (Amsterdam UMC), Dr. Marcel Muskiet (Leiden UMC), Dr. Thomas van Sloten (UMC Utrecht), and Dr. Teba Alinima (Radboud UMC).
The Prof. Dr. M. Diamant Fellowship is made possible through contributions from Boehringer Ingelheim, Eli Lilly, and Novo Nordisk, who have no influence on the selection of the fellowship recipients. Prof. Nieuwdorp and Prof. van Raalte also contribute to the fellowships.
The award is intended for early-career researchers with at least two years of research experience in a diabetes-relevant field, as demonstrated in the CV to be submitted. The successful applicant must be employed by a Dutch research institution. The research must be designed and carried out abroad.
Submit a proposal of no more than two A4 pages to d.vanraalte@amsterdamumc.nl , including an estimate of the expected costs and a concise CV.
